Introduction Chile extends over more than 4,000km (2,480 miles) with an average width of 180km (111.6 miles). Set between the Andes mountain range and the Pacific Ocean, it boasts a remarkably broad range of natural locations – from the world’s driest desert to wine valleys, beaches, ski resorts, rivers, lakes volcanoes, thick forests and stunning Patagonia and Antarctica. Island territories, notably Easter Island, Robinson Crusoe and Chiloe, offer unsurpassed attractions. Santiago and other cities provide attractive urban settngs, both modern and historic. Production equipment, local talent, inexpensive yet experienced labour, post-production facilities and skilled producers fluent in English are all redaily available. Why shoot in Chile? – ample range of natural locations; business-friendly environment; reverse seasons providing crucial scheduling advantages; world-class communications and technology infrastructure; first-rate accommodation, with most major hotel chains present in Chile; and easy, direct flights from major European and US cities.Permits/visas Although there is no official body which provides film permits in Chile, the Export Promotion Bureau (ProChile) is an agency under the Foreign Ministry's Directorate General for International Economic Relations which promotes Chilean exports and also promotes the country as a location. The agency can also assist international film companies to shoot in this country by putting them in contact with the owners of locations in order to obtain permits and facilities. ProChile has a global network of trade offices and representatives in 40 countries and a nationwide network of 15 regional offices which have direct contact with the regional authorities in order to help with international productions. Recent productions A large number of commercials have been shot in Chile by production companies from UK, Germany, Canada, Spain, France etc. The big production in 2007 was the James Bond 007 film "Quantum of Solace". |
