Introduction
Fiji is a South Pacific island nation about half way between Hawaii and Australia. It consists of over 350 picturesque volcanic islands and islets. Fiji’s islands vary dramatically in size, the largest of these islands being Viti Levu, about the size of the "Big Island" of Hawaii, and is where the capital and about 70% of the population are located. Just over 100 of the smaller islands are inhabited. The larger islands contain mountains as high as 1,200 meters (4,000 ft.) rising abruptly from the shore. Fiji offers some of the best filming locations in world from wild rivers and mega-dense jungles of Deuba (see "Anacondas" starring Morris Chestnut) to the picturesque town of Levuka on Ovalau to the world class beaches and coastal scenery of the Mamanucas (see "Castaway" starring Tom Hanks) and Yasawas (see "Blue Lagoon" starring Brooke Shields). Permits/visas
Anyone intending to film in Fiji needs to ensure that they have a valid passport. Permits to enter and film in Fiji will, unless otherwise directed by immigration officials, require a Business Visa. Business Visas may be extended by the Immigration Service for up to 3 months upon payment of the prescribed fees. If the film production is expected to take longer than 3 months, a Work Permit may be required. Given that the polices and laws governing the issuance of permits and visas may change from time to time, it is advisable that any person intending to travel to Fiji contact the Fiji Immigration Service officials through their website www.immigration.gov.fj.
