Introduction Cambodia is rich in culture and civilization. The country's most important heritage treasure, Angkor Wat, located in Siem Reap province, is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO and is considered to be one of the seven wonders of the world. Angkor Wat is the centre of a rich historical, traditional and cultural heritage. Cambodia's landscape is dominated by the Mekong River, which runs north-south through the country, and Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake is the Tonle Sap Lake. 80-90% of the population live in rural areas and are predominately farmers and although Cambodia has vast areas of lowland, there is also a large area of forested highlands. Wild elephants and tigers roam freely in the Cardmom and Dangrek Mountains, and Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces.
