Introduction
Norway has for a long time been a popular location for the industry because of its extraordinary geography; the fjords, the steep mountains, the glaciers and year-round snow. The Nordic light is not only a photographer's dream, its duration may also be a blessing for the director. Modern infrastructure makes easy travel to and within Norway. Available are professionals trained in all aspects of film production and access to technical resources that meet the standards of the international film industry. Together with extensive experience with international productions and few restrictions on filming and film-related work permits Norway makes your choice easy. Situated in the capital of western Norway the Norwegian Film Commission offers assistance in setting up productions for visiting television and film crews. They provide production facilities, pre location scouting and other services in accordance with the film industry's needs.

Permits/visas
Permits are not required to film in public places, but it is prudent to advise the Norwegian Film Commission and the local police, as to where and when shooting is to be undertaken, in order for them to be able to assist in case of difficulties.

Tax breaks/incentives
For the time being, the Norwegian Department of Culture has postponed incentives until 2009 due to reorganisation of the Norwegian Film Fund, but a trial scheme of subsidies will be introduced for foreign film productions in Norway. The subsidy will be calculated on the basis of documented costs incurred in Norway, and will amount to 15% of these costs. Feature films and television productions will be entitled to subsidies. Projects will be assessed on the basis of artistic/cultural criteria. The production must contribute to the promotion of Norwegian culture, history and nature. The subsidy will be conditional on a separate company being established in Norway for the individual production. Subsidies can only be granted to independent productions and approval must be applied for in advance. Norway aims to join the Council of Europe’s European Convention on Cinematographic Co-Production. Ratification will take place in 2008, after the Norwegian rules have been somewhat modified. Norway also aims to increase funding for co-productions with foreign countries. Norway does have both national and regional public production funds available to Norwegian production companies working in co-production with foreign entities.
