Introduction Uruguay, which translated from the Guarani language means "the river of the colourful or painted birds", is bordered by Brazil to the north, by Argentina across the bank of both the Uruguayan River to the west and the estuary of Río de la Plata to the southwest, and by the southern Atlantic Ocean to the southeast. Besides its capital Montevideo other major cities include Colonia (of which the cobblestone streets of Colonia del Sacramento built by the Portuguese in the 17th century are listed by Unesco as a World Heritage Site) and the up-market vacation resort of Punta del Este internationally known as the "Tourist Capital of Mercosur". Uruguay is home to 3.3 million people, of which 1.7 million live in the capital Montevideo and its metropolitan area. Uruguay's gentle undulating landscape has an average latitude of 140 metres. With the advantages of a wide variety and close proximity of locations - from desert to city, from city to mountain landscape, from mountains to beach scenery - comes attractive locations and an ethnic diversity of a well-educated population. In Uruguay there are more than 500 kilometres of coast, the classic four seasons, and the principal resort towns have a very rich coastline with numerous islands. You will also discover a country with a historical and a contemporary architecture - Art Nouveau, Art Deco. Bauhaus, Renaissance, French Gothic and other styles. To all these comparative advantages one can add competitive and high-quality performance. From experience gathered in meeting the demands of foreign markets, Uruguay has strengthened its efficiency in the audio-visual market and has technical expertise and qualified bilingual professionals as well as easy access to filmmaking equipment.Permits/visas Arrange through local agent.
