Shooting will begin this month in Oklahoma City and Guthrie for William H. Macy’s directorial film debut Rudderless.

The musical drama will star the Oscar nominee himself along with Billy Crudup (Watchmen), Anton Yelchin (Like Crazy), Selena Gomez (Spring Breakers), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) and Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives).

In the film, Macy plays a grieving father who stumbles across a box of his deceased son's original music and forms a band, hoping to find peace in the wake of his tragic loss.

Rudderless is being produced by Keith Kjarval through his Unified Pictures production/finance banner and Brad Greiner, through his indie shingle Amberdale Productions.

That the shoot is set in Oklahoma is no coincidence. “This film was written in Oklahoma and set in Oklahoma, and we saw no reason to shoot it anywhere but Oklahoma. And it was lucky for us that we did, because since we started our prep here, people have been more than accommodating. They've been downright generous,” said Macy.

Oklahoma City’s Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison adapted the screenplay from an original story they wrote with the actor-turned-director.

The production will be utilizing the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate.

“We are very happy to have Rudderless going into production soon here in Oklahoma”, said Jill Simpson, director of the Oklahoma Film & Music Office. “We are proud of both the talent and the tenacity of Casey and Jeff. They’ve not only written a great script that has attracted A-list talent, including director William H. Macy, but they have worked hard to bring the film to life in Oklahoma where it is set. These elements make Rudderless the perfect project for Oklahoma’s film rebate program.”

Producer Kjarval said: “Bill Macy is a profoundly talented artist and to surround him with such a diverse variety of tremendous actors makes us extremely confident this film will deliver on every level.

“Another overwhelming factor in the success of the film is the great state of Oklahoma and the many people who have taken us in and provided us everything from competitive financial incentives to a gorgeous landscape with which to tell our story.”
