Australian grant to Disney
The grant is to entice the Hollywood giant to choose Australia as the filming location for their forthcoming blockbuster, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, both behind and in front of the camera. Up to 2,000 jobs could be created for crew, goods and service providers, actors and affiliated businesses.
The payout – seen as a coup for the Australian film industry - comes on the back of the launch of Creative Australia, the new national cultural policy through which a further $20m is to be released to fund international production in the country.
Casting and locations are yet to be finalised.
