Iranian director to head jury at EIFF
Acclaimed Iranian director Samira Makhmalbaf is to chair the Michael Powell Best British Feature Film Competition Jury at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), which opened last night (19 June) and runs until 30 June.

Acclaimed Iranian director Samira Makhmalbaf is to chair the Michael Powell Best British Feature Film Competition Jury at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), which opened last night (19 June) and runs until 30 June.
Makhmalbaf became the youngest director in official selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 1998 with her first film The Apple, for which she won the London Film Festival’s Sutherland Trophy.
Her second and third films, The Blackboard (2000) and At Five in the Afternoon (2003) both received the Prix du Jury at Cannes. In 2002, she directed a segment of the anthology, 11'09''01 - September 11, in which 11 directors from 11 countries made short films reflecting on the devastating impact of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
The Michael Powell Best British Feature Film Competition Jury includes film critic and historian Malcolm and actor/director Kevin McKidd.
The Michael Powell Award, which carries a cash prize, was established at EIFF in 1990 to honour imagination and creativity in British filmmaking. The same jury will also select a winner for the Award for Best Performance in a British Feature Film.
