Martin Sheen and Rooney Mara board Brazil shoot
Shooting on Trash is set to take place in Rio de Janeiro from August to October, with Martin Sheen and Rooney Mara attached to star. Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours etc) directs from a screenplay by Richard Curtis.
The film is based on the children’s novel by Andy Mulligan, and is set in an unspecified country where poverty and crime are rife and where children live in an enormous rubbish dump the size of a city. It centres on three friends who survive by scavenging and whose lives are turned upside down by the contents of a leather bag they find among the vast piles of trash.
Trash is a co-production between 02 Filmes in Brazil and Working Title and Peapie Films in the UK. O2’s Bel Berlinck executive produces, with Kris Thykier producing and Pip Williams on board as associate producer.
