Michael Douglas and Jeremy Irvine reach out for New Mexico
Michael Douglas is to produce and star in The Reach, set to shoot in and around the Farmington area of New Mexico from 14 September. Jeremy Irvine, Hanna Mangan-Lawrence and Ronny Cox are among the cast.
Douglas’ company Furthur Films is behind the project, which is to be directed by Jean-Baptiste Leonetti from a screenplay by Stephen Susco.
The action thriller is based on the 1972 novel Deathwatch by Robb White, and centres on a lawyer and hunter, Madec, who gets rarely-granted authority to shoot bighorn sheep in the Mojave desert for seven days. He decides to recruit a student, a rather meek and mild young man called Ben, to help him locate the sheep. When Ben becomes the only witness to a fatal mistake, Madec decides to wipe him out too.
Robert Mitas produces for Furthur Films, with Stephen Susco and Philip Elway on board as executive producers. Alton Walpole, who is also a producer based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is the line producer and unit production manager.
