Cate Blanchett's Blackbird flies to the US
Writer/director David Mamet’s forthcoming thriller Blackbird will now film in the US, not Australia as had been previously announced. Recent reports that Mamet himself had been in Sydney looking at locations bolstered the idea that the feature seemed set to shoot there.
However, a spokeswoman at SBS Productions in Paris today confirmed to KFTV that filming will now take place in the US, starting in early January in Los Angeles, but was unable to give a reason for the move.
The film comes from producer Saïd Ben Saïd, and is described as a present day Hitchcockian thriller. Blanchett plays Janet who, after arriving in LA for her grandfather’s funeral, uncovers dramatic truths about his secret past, becoming embroiled in a JFK assassination conspiracy.
SBS Productions has recently wrapped filming on Maps to the Stars, directed by David Cronenberg and has been enjoying critical acclaim for the recent A Castle in Italy directed by Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi.
