Kate Winslet is attached to star in The Dressmaker, due to shoot in Victoria, Australia in 2014. Jocelyn Moorhouse will direct from her own screenplay.

The film is a big screen adaptation of the best-selling novel by Rosalie Ham. Set in the 1950s, it is a period romance and revenge tale of haute couture dressmaker Tilly Dunnage (Winslet), a young woman who returns to her home town which she had to leave as a child after being accused of murder.

Now a successful and skilled couturier, she uses her design skills and humour to liberate the townswomen while avenging her accusers. Judy Davis plays her eccentric mother Molly.

Producer Sue Maslin optioned the book four years ago and secured Moorhouse to write and direct. She confirmed to KFTV that the feature will shoot in the Mallee and Wimmera regions of western Victoria, known locally as the 'wheat belt'.

Maslin said: “This is a project with rich, complex characters and an indelible Australian setting. Jocelyn is the perfect filmmaker to bring Rosalie Ham’s book to screens throughout the world. The incredible assembly of talent in front and behind the camera is testimony to the ambition of everyone involved to make a great film.”

The film has been financed with the assistance of Screen Australia, the Ingenious Senior Film Fund, White Hot Productions, Film Victoria and Soundform. Originally planned for an early 2014 shoot, principal photography will now begin later in the year.
