Will Damian Lewis head for the desert?
There has been plenty of speculation recently about the lead cast on director Werner Herzog’s next project, Queen of the Desert, with Damian Lewis the latest name to be in the mix. Filming is due to get underway in Morocco in January.
In the much-anticipated biopic, Nicole Kidman plays Getrude Bell, whose extraordinary life helped mould the landscape and policies of the British Empire at the beginning of the 20th century. Born in 1868, Bell became a hugely influential explorer, archaeologist, writer, cartographer and political attaché.
If Lewis boards the project, he will play ill-fated English soldier Lt. Colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie, with whom Bell starts a long-distance romantic correspondence.
James Franco and Robert Pattinson are among the other A-listers reportedly attached to the project, which comes from Benaroya Pictures in Los Angeles. H Films in Casablanca is the production services provider.
