The internet is abuzz with reports that Idris Elba is to star in international thriller Bastille Day, set to shoot in the French capital.

According to Variety, the plot centres on a U.S. operative who has to ‘disappear’ a young American boy who is the prime suspect in an attack on the Paris Metro. It becomes apparent after several more attacks that not only is the boy innocent, but he could be the only person who holds the key to finding the real perpetrator.

The high-octane feature is produced by Philippe Rousselet for Vendome Pictures along with Steve Golin, Bard Dorros and David Kanter for Anonymous Content. The screenplay comes from Andrew Baldwin, who is also behind The Outsider, a feature starring Tom Hardy due to shoot in Japan.

It’s all about Europe for the Pacific Rim actor this year: Elba was also in Barcelona in the summer shooting the star-studded thriller The Gunman with Sean Penn and Javier Bardem.

The Prometheus actor can also be seen in Thor:The Dark World, which was filmed last year in the UK at Longcross and Shepperton Studios.

There is still plenty of news to come on Bastille Day – such as director – but what we want to know is will it open on 14 July?
