Former Doctor Who star David Tennant will be changing accents for Fox’s US series Gracepoint, a remake of the British hit series Broadchurch in which the 42 year old actor had the lead role.

Tennant will star next to heavy weights such as Breaking Bad‘s Anna Gunn and Jacki Weaver from Silver Linings Playbook.

The British actor will once again take on the role of lead detective (this time he goes by the name of Emmett Carver), the investigator who takes on the case of a horrendous murder in a small community.

Gunn will play local detective Ellie Miller, who is initially bitter that she has been passed over for promotion but whose knowledge of the village proves to be invaluable.

James Strong, who directed five episodes of the original series, has come on board to direct the series. He will take care of the opening hour on which he will also serve as executive producer.

The series will be produced by Shine America and Kudos. The first episode of Gracepoint will be written by Chris Chibnall, the man behind Broadchurch. Chibnall will also exec produce along with showrunners Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein as well as Jane Featherstone and Carolyn Bernstein.

Filming will begin in January and the series is expected to be on air during the 2014 spring season.
