Hollywood giant Disney has announced that there will definitely be a follow-up to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (2010), once again starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as Alice.

The main difference this time though, is that Burton - Depp’s long term collaborator and friend - won’t be in the director’s chair; James Bobin (The Muppets) will be at the helm this time around.

The new hire leads to the question of where it will shoot – Bobin himself hails from the UK, so it would be neat to think this could be a UK-based project. And Depp is practically living in London at the moment, having recently been filming Into the Woods at Shepperton Studios and now shooting Mortdecai at Pinewood.

Wherever the cameras eventually roll, The Mouse House must be hoping that it will be as big a hit as the first, which took over $1bn worldwide.

Linda Woolverton, who wrote the 2010 version, is back on screenwriting duties.
