UPDATE: Avengers films in Johannesburg and South Korea

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is shooting in Johannesburg, South Africa this week with Marvel announcing on Tuesday that the team will also film key elements of the movie in the capital city of South Korea, Seoul.

Blockbuster The Avengers: Age of Ultron is filming in Johannesburg this week and Marvel Studios has just announced that key elements of the movie will also be shot in South Korea.

Currently shooting in South Africa

The local film commissioners showcased Johannesburg to Marvel Studios in 2013, sharing information about the city’s filming locations and the benefits of shooting in the region.

The Gauteng Film Commission, responsible for film services in and around Johannesburg, said the city was chosen because of its weather, its vibrancy and its people.

The film will also benefit from the recently revised government film incentive which is intended to encourage and attract large-budget films and television productions that will contribute towards employment creation, enhancement of South Africa's international profile, and increase the country's creative and technical skills base.

"We're thrilled that Marvel Studios is bringing a major motion picture project to Johannesburg, and we're committed to showing them the very best our region has to offer," said Gauteng Film Commission CEO Phindile Mbanjwa.

It revealed that the shooting of the film, which is directed by Joss Whedon, is taking place around Albertina Sisulu and Rissik Street over the next four days until 23 February.

In addition to South African crew members who will be employed in the production, over 1000 extras will be required over the in total two week shooting schedule in the country.

Unfortunately for fans of the cast, the production will only capture action photography sequences throughout the city that will not include principle cast members.

Marvel announced latest location to be Seoul, South Korea

On Tuesday (18 Feb), Marvel Studios also announced that , Seoul in South Korea will be a key location, creating jobs for extras and crew.

"South Korea is the perfect location for a movie of this magnitude because it features cutting-edge technology, beautiful landscapes and spectacular architecture," said Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and producer of Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"We're very excited to have the production in Korea, and also expect this to serve as the footstep of many more opportunities yet to come," says minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism of South Korea, Yoo Jinryong, whose department made the production possible.

In addition to Korea and South Africa. the international production schedule for the film includes locations in London, UK, where the production will be based, as well as Aosta Valley, Italy. Additional locations are still expected to be announced.

The sequel to the 2012 film Avengers Assemble will feature well-known actors Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth as popular superheroes.
