Location managers of films and television series such as Game of Thrones and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty were this weekend praised for their contribution to the industry during the first ever Location Managers Guild of America (LMGA) awards.

Game of Thrones: Double win

The fantasy drama series, which films in Northern Ireland, beat off stiff competition from TV shows such as Breaking Bad and House of Cards, while the show’s location manager won over location professionals from the likes of Scandal and Behind the Candelabra.

In the feature film category, Ilt Jones picked up the trophy for Outstanding Achievement by a Location Professional for Iron Man 3, while The Secret Life of Walter Mitty won the Outstanding Location Feature Film award.

Special awards were also dished out at the black tie event - which took place at the WGA Theater in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles - Nebraska director Alexander Payne took home the Eva Monley Award for his support of the work of location professionals, while Oscar-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler collected the gong for the Humanitarian Award – his organisation12on12off calls more humane industry working conditions.

The Albuquerque Film Commission clearly did a good job on Breaking Bad and Lone Survivor: they won the award for Outstanding Film Commission, other nominees for this category included Film in Iceland, Long Beach Film Commission, South Pasadena Film Commission, and Film L.A.
