Service production company LS (Location Scotland) is launching a New York office to drive more international motion and stills productions to Scotland.

The new set-up is a partnership with NYC-based production company North Sea Air, run by Scot Graeme McLean and Amy Lipkin, providing LS’ first overseas outpost.

The first official international co-production from LS New York is an online film for Eden Brewery, advertising a whisky called Eden Mill, Spirit of St Andrews, to be launched later this month. It was shot over three days in the St Andrews area and included a day of aerial filming. McLean and Lipkin attended the shoot, with LS Motion providing crew, kit and production support.

LS already has a history of collaboration with American companies, having worked on campaigns with brands such as GE, Vanity Fair and Nautica.

Marie Owen, LS managing director, said of the new partnership: “We have found that there is strong interest from major US-based brands and media in using Scotland as a location, whether demand is for the rugged wilds of the Scottish Highlands, our sweeping beaches or the distinctive architecture of our cities. It therefore seemed like a natural next step for LS to establish a permanent base in New York to make the most of this opportunity – and Graeme is perfectly placed to support our ambitious goals for growth in the US market, given his knowledge of Scotland and his experience in the creative industries.”
