Shooting is now underway in Charlotte, North Carolina on Ashby, a comedy drama starring Mickey Rourke. The movie also stars Nat Wolff, Emma Roberts and Sarah Silverman.

Filming started in Charlotte last week and according to casting reports the shoot will last five weeks. Written and directed by Tony McNamara, the film centres on the relationship between a high school student (Wolff) and a retired CIA assassin called Ashby (Rourke) who doesn’t have long left to live.

TV series to have previously shot in Charlotte include Homeland (season 3), Sleepy Hollow and Banshee. Another popular filming location in North Carolina is the port city of Wilmington, which according to the North Carolina Film Office, has been an “active production hub since the early 1980s and has the production infrastructure and experience to support big-budget feature films, TV series, independent films, commercials, and more.”

In 2010, the state introduced attractive production incentives and has seen a significant influx of work as a result. In 2013, for example, it reported 60 productions equating to 5700 shooting days.
