Jay Roach’s biopic Trumbo starring Bryan Cranston will enter pre-production in a few weeks (21 July), with principal photography scheduled to start mid-September in New Orleans.

The feature marks a busy production period for the US city, with filming on the Keanu Reeves-starrer The Whole Truth lensing next week.

The Breaking Bad actor plays Dalton Trumbo, the Oscar-winning, blacklisted American screenwriter who was sent to prison in 1950 for refusing to answer questions about alleged communist ties in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee(HUAC). Helen Mirren also stars.

Known as the Hollywood Ten, Trumbo was one of a group of ten other industry figures including motion-picture producers and directors who appeared in front of the HUAC.

New Orleans has seen its fair share of production activity of late. It’s currently playing host to Jurassic World (aka Jurassic Park 4) - whose director Colin Trevorrow has been teasing audiences with images from the set via Twitter - and Terminator 5, which started shooting in May.

A few months ago we also reported on action comedy American Ultra starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, which started filming there in April.
