Pinewood Iskander Malaysia Studios (PIMS) has struck a deal with leading Malaysian TV producer Astro Productions to offer production services for the TV industry.

Under the five year agreement, Astro Productions Sdn Bhd (APSB), the production arm of media giant Astro, will be the exclusive provider of equipment and services for the production of TV content at two of Pinewood's TV studios. In return, APSB will produce a minimum of 4,500 hours of production per annum at the studios in the first two years and 3,000 hours of production per annum from the third year.

Currently housing Netflix’s Marco Polo, PIMS also holds a water tank and backlots for outdoor filming with 30 acres of natural forest. And in terms of tax incentives, Malaysia offers a 30% rebate for film and TV productions, introduced at the beginning of last year.

Astro’s credits include the Australian version of children’s programme Hi5 for NBC, Ben 10 game show for Turner International and Asia’s Next Top Model for Fox International.

Datuk Rohana Rozhan, CEO of Astro said, "Team Astro is a firm believer that Malaysia and Malaysians should be a creative force to be reckoned with, not only in this region but also globally. We also believe that this collaboration would play a pivotal role towards making this a reality. For it brings together Pinewood Iskandar, the Malaysian government through MCMC, Malaysian talent, local and global producers, global networks and Astro with the common objective of producing exceptional television.”
