The Namibia Film Commission (NFC) has said its local film industry has been enjoying considerable success with attracting more foreign film production companies to produce content in the country than ever before.

Talking to a local newspaper, chairman of the film commission, Obed Emvula, says that since the commission was established almost 15 years ago it has been able to create a respectable film profile and attract various Hollywood movies as well as documentaries.

According to Emvula, the film commission recently had Discovery Channel’s Naked and Afraid in the country, as well as CBS’ reality series Amazing Race. The film Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron, also filmed in Namibia last year.

“The mere fact that we have foreign film production companies coming here shows that Namibia has the infrastructure to attract big-budget films that employ Namibians and contribute to the GDP,” said Emvula.
