Tri-lingual drama takes in UK, Serbia, France and Montenegro
A major new drama series is gearing up for production in late October, filming in multiple territories including Marseille, London, Belgrade (pictured) and Montenegro over a six month shoot.
The Last Panthers will be shot in English, French and Serbian and comes from France’s Haut et Court and the UK’s Warp Films for CANAL+ and Sky Atlantic. Samantha Morton, John Hurt and Tahar Rahim star.
The 6 x 60 drama is based on the true story of the emergence of crime gangs, The Panthers, following the Balkan war. They became known as infamous jewel thieves, and were also involved in smuggling weapons and rugs across Europe.
Johan Renck directs from a screenplay by Jack Thorne, which is based on an original idea from French journalist Jerome Pierrat.
Peter Carlton of Warp Films and Caroline Benjo from Haut et Court TV, commented: "What Sky Atlantic and CANAL+ have given us is the chance to make a truly contemporary, world class series that is smart and multi layered. THE LAST PANTHERS is a big, bold operatic series that tells a story about Europe today, about old alliances and terrifying freedoms, through the lives of our characters who move within it. Our shared histories and moral choices impact on every one of us in ways we cannot foresee."
