HBO has ordered a highly original sounding period musical drama from Alan Ball and Elton John, to be filmed in Budapest in the spring.

HBO has ordered a highly original sounding period musical drama from Alan Ball and Elton John, to be filmed in Budapest in the spring.
True Blood creator Ball, who has a deal with the network, will write the hour-long pilot of Virtuoso; he will also serve as director, exec producer and producer. Working alongside him as producers are John, David Furnish and Peter Macdissi.
Macdissi is also reportedly starring as Salieri in the show, which is set at the Academy of Musical Excellence in 18th century Vienna. Other cast attached include Iva Babic, Francois Civil, Lindsay Farris, Nico Mirallegro and Alex Lawther.
Elton John and his Rocket Pictures producing partners Furnish and Steve Hamilton Shaw are working on several projects at the moment, including a biopic of the singer/songwriter himself starring Tom Hardy and the animated film Gnomeo and Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes.
