Liam Neeson to co-produce A Mad and Wonderful Thing

Liam Neeson has signed on to co-produce the film adaption of Mark Mulholland’s novel A Mad and Wonderful Thing.

The film which is set to shoot in Dundork, Ireland as well as other yet to be disclosed locations, is in the early stages of development. The story centres around IRA sniper Johnny Donnelly, who falls in love with a girl called Cora amidst the Northern Ireland conflict. The film will be produced by leading Irish production company Parallel Films, run by Alan Moloney who are currently making Jadotville in South Africa starring Jamie Dornan.

Talking to The Irish Times, Mulholland said on the film: “It was Liam who did the running on this and made the thing happen. And it was Liam that approached and encouraged Parallel Films to go for it. Liam has been loyal and supportive to the work from the start and he has also made some wonderful comments. Liam, because of who he is, brings assurance of a big production and a guarantee of attention.”

A Mad and Wonderful Thing will be Neeson’s first role behind the scenes as a co-producer, something he reportedly hasn’t been keen on in the past.

As the big screen adaption is still in incredibly early stages it is as of yet unknown if Neeson will also star in the feature.
