Ghostbusters 3: Set in NYC, shot in Boston with Chris Hemsworth

Who you gonna call when you want a strong female-led film? Well director Paul Feig of course!

Hot off the heels of Spy - which starred Melissa McCarthy as CIA analyst Susan Cooper - the director is set to helm the highly publicised Ghostbusters 3 featuring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

In a recent turn of events, Chris Hemsworth has also been cast to play the role of receptionist, which Annie Potts portrayed in the original film by Janine Melnitz. The first couple of films starring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd were famously set in New York so when reports swirled of a move to Boston fans of the original were flabbergasted.

Feig also reported to Empire: “Some of the fans are mad at me about doing a reboot and even I would be mad at myself if I pulled it out of New York. To me it's such a New York movie and the biggest sin would be to pull it out of there. I just love New York and, selfishly, I just want to shoot in New York.”

The story will apparently be totally different with McCarthy at the head of the team with reports she may have some kind of connection to Murray’s former character. Production on the film will begin later this summer.

But fear not, Feig has said that despite filming mainly in Boston - so the production can claim the Massachusetts tax incentive - the story will still be set in New York City with some exteriors to be filmed there.
