The global production and distribution arm of Keshet Media Group, Keshet International (KI), has launched a European Drama Initiative to fund three or four new drama productions a year.

The scheme will ensure that KI builds on existing relationships with drama producing companies all over Europe as well as establishing new partnerships, as it aims to finance, co-develop and co-produce projects for the international market.

High end drama co-production has been enjoying a boom all over Europe, with big budget cinematic production values and A-list casts previously reserved for feature films; KI’s move will aid the growing demand.

The drama initiative will be masterminded by Keshet’s head of business development and acquisitions, Sebastian Burkhardt and Sara Johnson, the company’s scripted executive producer and head of co-productions.

Burkhardt said: “It’s a great time to launch our Euro Drama Initiative formalising our existing presence in the market. We are excited to partner with existing and new producers who share the same creative vision and passion for quality drama. By harnessing our existing pool of creative talent, matching that with development funding and KI’s international reach and ability to deficit finance, we are confident that we have all the ingredients to build a robust co-production vision in Europe.”

Recent examples of Keshet’s alliance with European producers include Crater Lake, an 8 x 60 drama from Israeli-born screenwriter Ron Leshem which they are working on with France’s Atlantique Productions.
