UK-based Big Talk Productions and Shaftesbury in Canada are working together on a major new supernatural drama series, Houdini & Doyle, in association with Shore Z.

Filming on the 10 x 60 will take place in Manchester and Toronto, with cameras due to roll later this summer.

Michael Weston of House stars alongside Episodes’ Stephen Mangan in the period crime drama; the two play world famous escape artist Harry Houdini and literary giant Sir Arthur Conan Doyle respectively.

The series reunites Weston with House creator David Shore, who is working alongside regular collaborator David Hoselton and Canadian screenwriter David Titcher on the production.

Shore said: "I've long been intrigued by both Houdini & Doyle; men who were ahead of their time, each fascinating in their own right. But the idea that these two, seemingly so different, could have been friends is almost too perfect. In Michael and Stephen, we have found two incredible actors that embody the intelligence, humour and mystique of these men, who even when viewed through the lens of history, are larger than life.”

Sony Pictures Television will handle international distribution of the series which will air on Global in Canada, ITV Encore in the UK and FOX in the US.
