A major new drama from UK-based shingle Red Planet Pictures is due to shoot in South Africa and Italy, with cameras rolling from November.

Hooten & The Lady is an 8 x 60 adventure series starring Michael Landes (CSI, Adventures of Superman) and Ophelia Lovibond (Guardians of the Galaxy, Man Up) as an intrepid duo who set off across the globe in search of fabled treasure.

Filming will begin in Rome and will include scenes being shot at the Vatican. The production will then move on to Cape Town. Some UK HoDs have been hired, with the majority of the crew sourced in South Africa.

Red Planet Pictures have plenty of experience in long-running, international shoots as one of their many drama series, the Caribbean-set Death in Paradise, has filmed five series in Guadaloupe.

Hooten & The Lady is for UK channel Sky 1, with Caroline Levy on board to series produce and Colin Teague lead director. Red Planet Pictures’ founder and showrunner Tony Jordan is lead writer; he also executive produces with Simon Winstone.

Landes said of the project: “Humour, action, adventure and Tony Jordan. Where do I sign up? It's an opportunity of a lifetime. I'm so excited!!”

Lovibond added: "I've never played a full-on action role like The Lady before, so I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck in. I'm excited at the prospect of working with Michael and it's also great to be working with Sky again. Not to mention filming in South Africa!”
