Taken TV pilot films in Ontario
A TV pilot based on Liam Neeson’s hit action movie Taken and its sequels is filming on location in Ontario, Canada, with a production base in Toronto.
The first Taken film was released in 2008 and introduced Neeson as gruff former CIA agent Bryan Mills (pictured) chasing his daughter’s kidnappers in Europe.
Produced for a relatively modest $25m, the film made nearly $230m worldwide, creating a franchise and launching Neeson as an action star.
American network NBC is planning to launch the concept as a TV series following a younger Mills – Neeson is not involved – and the month-long pilot shoot wraps next week.
Toronto is one of the most popular production hubs in North America, partly because of Ontario’s generous filming incentives.
Nearly 30 features and TV series are currently filming in Ontario. They include Vin Diesel’s action sequel xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and fantasy series American Gods, a long-awaited adaptation of a popular fantasy novel by renowned author Neil Gaiman.
Pinewood Toronto Studios is one of Ontario’s main production facilities and in February announced plans to expand its film and TV support facilities.
