JK Rowling’s first sequel to her period fantasy adventure Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has started filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden near London.

Set in the Harry Potter universe, the Fantastic Beasts story is a prequel saga that takes place in the late 1920s and follows the adventures of ‘magizoologist’ Newt Scamander – played by Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne – between New York, London and Paris.

In total five films are planned for the new franchise.

All seven Harry Potter films were shot at Leavesden Studios, which was rebranded as Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden when the US studio purchased the facility outright towards the end of production on the Potter franchise.

Rowling’s first Fantastic Beasts film was set largely in New York but the city was recreated at Leavesden, and on location in Liverpool.

The UK is one of the top filming locations in the world. Indeed, the Fantastic Beasts sequel shoot begins days after the British Film Institute announced a plan to boost the national crew base with 10,000 skilled individuals within the next five years.
