French actor Vincent Cassel is to star in Partisan, which is set to shoot in Australia in October. The actor, who won a Cesar award in 2008 for his role in Mesrine, replaces Oscar Isaac in the lead role.
Cassel plays Gregori, a troubled, charismatic man who lives within a luxury compound with his communal family. The narrative of the story is told from the point of view of Alexander, a young boy who begins to question Gregori’s fatal doctrine.

Partisan marks the debut feature from 28 year-old Australian director Ariel Kleiman, whose short films include Deeper Than Yesterday and Young Love.
The film comes from producers Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw of Warp Films Australia, with backing from Screen Australia, Animal Kingdom, Film Victoria and DDP Studios with support from Fulcrum Media Finance. Animal Kingdom’s David Kaplan and Frederick W. Green will serve as executive producers.
