Chinese broadcaster CCTV 7 has snapped up the format of Welsh series Fferm Ffactor, in which farmers face various challenges on all aspects of agricultural work.

The series is made by prolific Welsh production company Cwmni Da, from an original idea by Good Company Productions. Since its first broadcast on Welsh language channel S4C it has been sold to other countries, but this move marks a first foray into Asia for the format.

With over 300 million farmers in China, it seems the programme will have a guaranteed appeal in the country, which also has more sheep than anywhere else in the world.

Fferm Ffactor producer Non Griffith said: "It's obvious that agriculture is very important in China. We're not sure yet what sorts of tasks the Chinese producers will set for their farmers, but we look forward to finding out more during the next few months."

Gaynor Davies, S4C content commissioner added: "Fferm Ffactor has a strong following among S4C viewers and we look forward to welcoming the series back to the screen for the fifth time. The format has wide appeal and it has the potential for development and adaption for the audience, which makes it an attractive prospect for international broadcasters. We're proud that programmes made and developed in Wales are recognised in this way, and entertain audiences across the world."
