Currently filming in Italy is The Face of An Angel, directed by Michael Winterbottom (The Look of Love). The film is a fictional adaptation of the book Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox by Barbie Latzu Nadeau, and stars Kate Beckinsale, Daniel Brühl (Rush) and model Cara Delevingne.

In the movie Brühl plays Thomas, a filmmaker who is commissioned to write a movie based on a book about the murder of a British student in Tuscany and the subsequent trial and conviction of her American flatmate and Italian boyfriend. Beckinsale plays Simone Ford, the author of the book and journalist who uncovered the case. Delevingne plays Melanie, a student who begins a relationship with Thomas.

Beckinsale and Winterbottom have both played down reports that the film is about Amanda Knox - speaking to The Hollywood reporter back in July, Winterbottom said: “Our film is actually about losing a daughter, losing someone close to you; why are we so interested in violence and why are we not more interested in love.”

BBC Films and Revolution Films are behind the project, with Melissa Parmenter and Riccardo Tozzi producing. WestEnd Films are handling worldwide sales.

Filming takes place in Siena and Rome until 21 December.
