The Norwegian film institute has negotiated a co-production agreement with the Netherlands Film Fund, to increase the collaboration between the two countries in the film sector, particularly in documentaries.

The move comes following the new Norwegian government’s announcement that it will cut state support for local film production by €4m from 2014. This could mean a reduction of two to four features annually.

The industry has already had to suffer from a lack of increases in funding over the past few years while the scope of the funding has increased to also include television shows and video games.

The treaty, which should secure Norwegian talent and project a greater impact in the European market, will be announced during IDFA, one of the world’s biggest and most important documentary festivals in the world which takes place from 20 November until 1 December in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Norway has four documentaries featuring in the Dutch festival, these are Light Fly, Fly High by Susann Østigaard; Twin Sisters by Mona Friis Bertheussen; Olga – To My Friends (pictured) by Paul-Anders Simma; and the interactive documentary project 17,000 Islands by Thomas Østbye and Edwin (who is from Indonesia).
