Ridley Scott is heading to Virginia for his next project – a major new drama for PBS about the Civil War set in Virginia.
As yet untitled, the six-episode series has been created by Lisa Q. Wolfringer and David Zabel and is produced by Saw Bone Films and Scott Free for PBS.

The series is based on the true life stories of nurses Mary Phinney and Emma Green – one a New England abolitionist, one a young Confederate – working together at a Union Army hospital called Mansion House, in the occupied Confederate city of Alexandria. The project marks PBS’ first home-produced drama/original commission in ten years.
The commission was announced by PBS president and CEO Paula A. Kerger who made the announcement at the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday.
“We’re looking to do drama that is a little different than what everyone else is doing,” she said, “which is not just to entertain but to educate and inspire.”
As always with Scott, this is one of several irons he has in the fire at any one time. In November last year, shooting started on The Martian in Budapest – we had the location news first here at KFTV, back in September. Among the scores of projects he is reportedly working on are another biblical epic based on the story of David and Goliath, Prometheus 2 and Tom Hardy’s new TV period drama, Taboo.
