Ruth Wilson and Sam Worthington are heading to the Canaries to film a sci-fi adventure feature, The Titan.

Filming is due to begin in January on the film, which is based on a story by Arash Amel about a military family that gets relocated to participate in a revolutionary experiment about genetic evolution in space.

Amel is among the producers, working alongside Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik, Ben Pugh of 42 and Leon Clarance. Lennart Ruff directs from a screenplay by Max Hurwitz.

It is not yet known which of the Canary islands will be used for the shoot, but most of them offer a lunar-like landscape of volcanic rocks and black sand. Adding to the appeal for foreign filmmakers heading to the islands is the offer of a hefty 35% tax incentive, higher than mainland Spain.

Recent high-profile productions to have shot on and around the Atlantic archipelago include Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea (La Gomera and Lanzarote, doubling for the Ecuadorian coast); Exodus: Gods and Kings (Fuerteventura).

Wilson has another commitment first, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, a feature adaptation of a Neil Gaiman short story due to shoot in London next month.
