Johnny Depp’s adventure sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is to film scenes in Vancouver, Canada.

Disney shot most of the movie over nearly 100 days last year at Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland, Australia, a facility that offers eight sound stages and three water tanks.

There were reportedly numerous production delays during the Australia shoot, including a shutdown of several weeks when Depp picked up an injury in a small off-set accident.

Pick-up shots will be filmed in Vancouver until the second week of April. The movie is scheduled for release in May 2017.

Vancouver is one of the world’s top production hubs. It’s within easy reach of Los Angeles, can double for a range of international locations and British Columbia has a generous provincial filming incentive.

Vancouver in fact currently faces a challenge providing enough studio space for all the productions looking to shoot locally, with warehouses and other industrial spaces increasingly being used as adapted filming facilities.

Dead Men Tell No Tales will be the fifth in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise that was first launched nearly 15 years ago and has delivered huge international box office for Disney. The new movie received filming incentive support of some AU$20m to film in Australia.
