Ukraine is expected to launch a filming incentive within the next few months after recently passing an initial government reading.

First mooted last summer, the main incentive will likely comprise a 25% rebate to international producers and there will also be an opportunity to claim back 10% on local taxes, according to a Screen Daily report.

In addition, Ukraine’s Film Agency wants to set up a network of film commissions in the country’s biggest cities to present a more film-friendly support structure to international producers.

Ukraine has been in a military stand-off with pro-Russian separatists in the east of the country since the annexation of Crimea in 2014. However, Ukraine still has a thriving domestic production industry and 20 feature films are currently being made in the country.

South-east of Ukraine, Georgia launched its first filming incentive as a 20% cash rebate in January. Officials recently organised Georgia’s first international familiarisation trip to showcase the country’s locations and infrastructure to a group of producers and location managers.
