UK drama Tin Star spends $1m filming in Alberta

Producers spent around CA$230,000 for local crew expenses, and as compensation to High River businesses for loss of revenue during filming. The team also paid to have sets built locally, and for equipment rental.

“When we first came here and met all the people we could work with and saw the opportunities and the great crews you have here, it all came together,” said Alison Jackson, an executive producer on the show, in a recent interview with news outlet CBC.

"[For] our finale we'll probably be filming up in the mountains and we would like to have snow. You seem to be able to squeeze in four seasons in one day here.”

Alberta now has a purpose-built film studio – the Calgary Film Centre – that offers three sound stages and is set to host the third series of the TV adaptation of Fargo in the coming weeks.
