Production has started in Atlanta on a movie adaptation of the classic arcade videogame Rampage, which will feature action star Dwayne Johnson (pictured).

In the original high-concept game, players controlled immense monsters and were tasked with destroying cities while facing a defensive onslaught from military forces.

Atlanta is one of the top production hubs in the US due to a competitive filming incentive programme, world-class studios and flexible locations.

The Rampage shoot marks a return to Georgia for Johnson, who filmed a movie adaptation of cult TV favourite Baywatch on location on Savannah’s Atlantic coast last year. Fast & Furious 8 – which again stars Johnson – also used Atlanta as a production base in 2016.

Monster movies are back in fashion after the huge success of Jurassic World, Godzilla and, more recently, Kong: Skull Island. A sequel to Jurassic World is currently in production in the UK and follow-ups to Godzilla and Kong are also in development.
