Serbia is to get a new studio facility with opening set for summer 2020.

Serbia-based Firefly Productions is building the filming complex that will comprise three sound stages, two of 2000 sqm and one of 800 sqm. There will also be a backlot, production offices, a water tank and related facilities.

The studio is based in Pancevo, 20 minutes from central Belgrade, and has a layout drawn up by production designer Miljen Kljakovic Kreka.

Firefly’s MD Ivana Mikovic said of the decision to construct the new facility: “My decision was driven not only by the lack of studio space in this region, but also by the Serbian government’s decision to increase the film/tv tax incentives scheme to attract international production.

“Last week’s law was passed, so international producers spending more than €5m for a project get a rebate of 30%”.

Firefly Productions will produce original scripted and unscripted content with a focus on high-end TV drama for the international market.
