Disney+ UK original series, Nautilus, has commenced filming at Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland, Australia.

The Moonriver TV and Seven Stories production is based on Jules Verne’s classic novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, with Michael Matthews (Love and Monsters) set to direct.

The adaptation is being developed by Moonriver TV’s Xavier Marchand and Seven Stories Anand Tucker with Cameron Welsh set to co-produce.

The ten-episode series tells the story from Captain Nemo’s point of view - an Indian Prince who is robbed of his birthright after he is imprisoned. On a quest for revenge, Nemo sets sail with his ragtag crew on board the Nautilus. But on the journey he discovers a wondrous underwater world, where he learns to take his place as leader of the crew, and goes on an adventure beneath the sea.

Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery, The Pursuit of Love) will play Captain Nemo, and is joined in the cast by Georgia Flood (Anzac Girls) as Humility Lucas, a privileged daughter of the British Empire who is taken hostage on board the Nautilus, and Thierry Fremont (Allied) as Gustave Benoit, a French engineer and architect of the submarine.

Other cast members include Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Chum Ehelepola, Céline Menville and newcomer Kayden Price.

Series writer, James Dormer, will also serve as executive producer with Johanna Devereaux and Chris Loveall for Disney+.
