Tax breaks / incentives
Kenya has not gone down the route of offering tax incentives to filmmakers, which makes it less attractive than other regional rivals such as South Africa. However the subject has been discussed at national assembly level.
Questioned on the subject in 2010, the government pointed to the following: import duty and VAT on TV cameras, digital cameras and VCRs had been removed; VAT taxable goods and services offered to film producers had been zero-rated; 100% investment reduction on capital expenditure incurred by a film producer on the purchase of any filming equipment had been granted. Aside from this, it’s worth talking to the KFC about any film grants that might be available.
