The Old Cinderella film set to boost tourism in Israel

Shooting has begun in Israel on the Chinese rom-com The Old Cinderella – the first film to be co-produced between China and Israel. Israel's tourist board is hoping the film will see an increase in Chinese tourists visiting the country.

Directed by Wu Bai and produced by Lu Chuan, the film stars Pan Yueming and Zhang Jingchu (who starred in Rush Hour 3). It’s based on the novel Ruguo Buneng Haohao Ai, written by Gao Ya’nan.

The Israeli Tourism Ministry has invested over $80,000 to promote the film. Its minister, Stas Misezhnikov said: “One of the goals of the ministry for 2013 is to break through into the Chinese market. Undoubtedly, the effect of a movie shot in Israel with leading Chinese stars, will be greater and more significant than other alternative marketing activities.”

The film centres on divorced mother Xu Ke (Jingchu), who is in a love triangle with new man Kang Shao (played by Kenji Wu) and her ex-husband Liu Zheng (Yueming).

Shooting takes place in the Old City of Jerusalem, after which filming is expected to move on to Tel Aviv, Jaffa and the Dead Sea.
