Oscar-nominated director Paula van der Oest to direct feature Lucia de B, based on real events

The Academy Award-nominated director Paula van der Oest is at the helm of Lucia B, a new feature film based on the infamous legal scandal surrounding Dutch paediatric nurse Lucia de Berk.

In 2003, de Berk was sentenced to life imprisonment for multiple murders, having been found guilty with no clear proof. She spent six years in prison before her acquittal in 2010. The case became one of the most scandalous miscarriages of justice in The Netherlands, and still divides opinion today.

The film is an international coproduction between Rinkel Film in The Netherlands, Living Stone in Belgium and Filmkreatörerna in Sweden. The producers are Reinier Selen, Martin Dewitte and Klara Björk respectively. The screenplay is by Moniek Kramer and is based on de Berk’s autobiography.

Filming will begin in early June in The Netherlands and Belgium.
