Northern Ireland Screen is looking for new film writers to apply for its New Talent Focus 2013-2014 programme.

Northern Ireland (NI) Screen is looking for new film writers to apply for its New Talent Focus 2013-2014 programme.

New Talent Focus films are made on an ultra-low budget (£200,000 or less) and scripts must be written taking this factor into account.

“Your challenge is to think imaginatively within the constraints of a limited budget so avoid writing period pieces, high action, special effects,” the organisation states in its call for admissions.

A panel comprised of the BFI, Film4 and Northern Ireland Screen will select up to four scripts for development between September 2013 and April 2014 with the intention of selecting one for further development and, hopefully, production will be between April 2014 and March 2015.

New Talent Focus intends to fund at least one production each year.

Scripts with ambition exceeding the practical possibilities of low budget filmmaking will be deemed ineligible. A producer and director are not required at this stage.

To help writers prepare for their application, NI Screen are hosting two free screenwriting seminars delivered by the organisation’s development executive Steve Brookes who is an experienced script consultant and writer.

Further information and details of how to apply can be found here on the NI Screen website.
