Pinewood Studios, one of the UK’s most famous studios – home to the famous 007 stage – has had its plans for a £200m expansion rejected.
According to reports, South Bucks District Council rejected the plans because they it deemed an “inappropriate” expansion into green belt land.
The 100,000 square metre extension plans from the studio included new stage and streetscapes, as well as the creation of more than 3,000 jobs.
Wimbledon Studios expands
In other more positive news, another UK studio, Wimbledon Film & TV Studios, has announced that its media village is to expand to twice its current size. The production hub will have a dedicated entrance, and offer an extra 8000 square feet of office space to house at least 25 new companies.
The studio is one of the rare studios in the UK that has several permanent standing sets, such as a prison, street, and hospital.
Piers Read MD, Wimbledon Film & TV Studios said: “We’re hugely excited about expanding the media village. Once complete, the complex will be able to house at least 75 media companies all of which will be available to the productions that visit the studios, and of course to the international TV and film community – our aim being to give them everything they need on their production’s doorstep."
