The Colour is set against the backdrop of the New Zealand gold rush of the 1860s, and follows the story of prospector Joseph Blackstone and his wife Harriet who move to New Zealand to start a new life. Marshall said: “It’s taken nine years to bring this wonderful book to the screen. It’s an extraordinary story and we are delighted that Peter has agreed to direct.”

Shooting will take place in New Zealand in 2014, with development support having been provided by the New Zealand Film Commission.
